DJ Peachy

DJ Peachy

DJ Peachy

Name: Peachy

Show: Ja-Fu-Re! collective & St. David’s Hillbillies

When are you on? Tuesdays 4-6pm with Ja-Fu-Re & Fridays 12noon-2pm with SaDaHiBi

What type of music can we expect to hear on your show?
Tuesday’s show is self explanatory (but I do play around with the remit ) and Friday’s is a no-holds barred funfest!! Depends who the DJs/guests are…

How did you get into this type of music?
Started djing at NSC (Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign) and CSC (Cuba Solidarity Campaign) gigs with Mikey Good in Plymouth playing latin funk. While the St. David’s Hillbillies grew out of a group of people bemoaning the state of the local music scene and how some types of music just weren’t played enough. So we get herded into the studio once a week.

How long have you been DJing?
15years

How did you start DJing?
I used to run pubs and found myself filling in for djs who didn’t turn up then got together with Mikey Good (Really Good Records in Plymouth) to run a CSC fundraiser titled “Get Into The Swing At The Nowhere Inn” (The poster had a great picture of Fidel Castro playing golf, mid-swing, in the USA) and we played mostly Latin Funk and it just snowballed from there…[So it's all Mike's fault-ED]

Can we find you DJing anywhere other than on Phonic FM?
I’ve been lucky enough to play at various venues around the South West and beyond with many great DJs and I am trying to get out more but “Everyone’s a DJ”. Please let me know if you want me to come and play at an event/party!! Thanks.

What has been your most embarrassing DJing moment?
Playing to an empty tent at Aeon again this year (2009) There was a mix-up in the booking and I ended up playing on my own on Sunday morning (10-11am) when everyone else was asleep or enjoying the sun. Cracking set but that’s just my opinion and it didn’t get recorded as the guy who was doing the recording was still asleep.

What has been your best DJing moment?
This year (2009) I was honoured enough to play (to full tents), not only at Watts Fest but also at Larmer Tree* festival#. (*See Faceache profile picture-Thanks Mobydoc) (# = LT is my fave festy EVER and the boss liked it and asked me back!!!)

Who is your favourite artist? Why?
Herbie Hancock; saw him at Ravenna Jazz :- BLOWN AWAY!! Also; Ani Difranco, (See her live and you’ll know why) p.s. I’d lurve to go to Babeville!!!

What is your all time favourite album? Why?
Herbie Hancock- Fat Albert Rotunda / Ani Difranco - Little Plastic Castle. Both artists have many tracks and albums that I love but these albums are full of great music.

Where do you shop for music in Exeter? Why?
Martian Records, Reform Records, Oxfam, the monthly Record Fair and all the rest… Why*??????!!!????? [* = Please file under "Dumb Questions"-ED]
