Presenters names: DJ Peachy, Dred Stripe, Blissful Urchin, Badgerstyle, Digga, Miss West, Fat Baby, The 3rd Man, Lindyhop, Aaarriba, Boy Winser and live guests like Dan Donnelly, Rory Ellis, Scrabblebag, Chris Grant et al.
Show time and day: Tuesday 4-6pm and occasional Thursdays 4-6pm.
What type of music can we expect to hear on the show?
Jazz, funk, reggae, blues, soul, breakbeat, dub, ska, world music and more.
Why do you like this music?
The beats, the funk, the soul, the feeling. That’s like asking: “Why do you breathe?”
What is the format of your show?
Usually four/four but sometimes we’ll play half an hour each or three/three and if we’re pushed for time- two/two.
Why should we listen to your show?
Why not? It’s fun - give it a whirl and you’ll see! We don’t like pigeonholes so we bust them up and set the birds free. (sic)
How did your show come about?
A group of like-minded people met in the North Bridge Inn - we had a Sunday residency for five years and now do sets all over the place. Then we were asked to do Vibraphonic FM. And we were part of the first 100 to form Phonic FM.
What goes on behind the scenes in the studio?
Dancing about and generally making fools of ourselves or just sitting and chilling. Depends how we feel. We always come out feeling better than when we went in though.
What has been your best on air moment?
Four requests at once and we had all of them. I think we have an audience now who know what we like and they like it to.
What has been your worst/ most embarrassing on air moment?
Exeter City Council being shown the studio during our show and Stella Brock asking for the sound to be turned off in the speakers so she could pose for the cameras with one of the best records we have… Oh the shame… the indignity… the humanity!!
Who is your favourite artist?
Herbie Hancock , Fat Mama (our theme).
What is you all time favourite album?
Easy Star All Stars – Radiodread. We played the balcony for their show at Exeter Phoenix and one of us got to meet them and got some tunes as well!!! (The rest of us are dred jealous…)
