Playing funk, house and soul. |
Name: Rich Hodgson
Show: Playtime
When are you on?
I’m on every Saturday from 12.00 noon to 2:00pm.
What type of music can we expect to hear on your show?
We usually play funk, house and soul plus the occasional local artist and every so often something completely different, as the mood takes us (me and Rich).
How did you get into this type of music?
I heard it and found that it was good.
How long have you been DJing?
Twenty years.
How did you start DJing?
I started my own night called Le Freak when I was at college and just carried on.
I had residencies at Boxes, Timepiece, Coolings and Kino in Exeter and Kinda Funky in Torquay over the years.
Can we find you DJing anywhere other than on Phonic FM?
Not anymore, too old and I can’t stay awake that late anymore.
What has been your most embarrassing DJing moment?
I don’t get embarrassed I get even. This may involve damaging naughty equipment to take attention away from my own inadequacies but don’t tell anyone.
What has been your best DJing moment?
Daddy G from Massive Attack told me he liked my set one night. That was pretty cool.
Who is your favourite artist?
Prince, James Brown, Barry White, Roy Ayers, The Time.
What is your all time favourite album?
Pandemonium – The Time. It’s funny and funky and Jesse Johnson plays guitar like he’s whisking egg whites!
Where do you shop for music?
There is nowhere to buy records in Exeter anymore if you like soul music. It’s a shame. So I usually resort to looking online.
