Playing Mostly Mello music. |
Name: Rich
Show: The Mello Men
When are you on?
I am in every third Sunday of each month 2-4pm.
What type of music do you play on the show?
I buys the new stuff and Alex buys the old stuff. I buy lots of modern electronic music, and somehow we try to connect the disparate elements together, in order to make a good listen.
How did you get into this type of music?
I set no limits on what I listen to, as long as it’s not bangin’.
How long have you been DJing?
I have been presenting since the first Vibraphonic FM restricted broadcast in 2004 and I have been DJing on and off since 1997.
How did you start DJing?
It was all thanks to JSR, who first told me about Vibraphonic FM back in 2004 and from this the ‘Music for Hairdressers’ show was born.
I first started DJing in Madrid about 10 years ago, where I had a residency at Café Belen, which was such a wonderful period of my life (Hola! Eduardo y Jesus). I also DJed at various other places around the city, including El Mercado de Fuencarral (Hola! Chema Ama).
Can we find you DJing anywhere other than on Phonic FM?
I DJ on Gusto Radio and do various parties for children around the Teignmouth area.
What has been your most embarrassing DJing moment?
I haven’t done anything too disastrous yet, although I do have a habit of leaving the microphone on.
What has been your best DJing moment?
Presentingwise I’ve really enjoyed The Mello Men shows we’ve done this year.
As for DJing, playing at Café Belen in Madrid.
Who is your favourite artist?
The Clash for the diversity of their music, attitude and style. At the moment, I really like the work by Keith Kenniff , who records under the guises Helios, Goldmund and Sonos . He’s on the Type label, which released some exceptional records in 2008.
What is you all time favourite album?
The Clash – London Calling , because I grew up with it.
Where do you shop for music?
I tend to scour the charity shops of Teignmouth plus I also buy from Scene & Heard in Teignmouth. But I buy the majority of new music from online stores.

Hi Rich, it’s Ollie form The Barefoot Manoeuvre, you came into the shop today.
I notice you live in Teignmouth and thought I’d metion there is a jam night at the Devon Arms, Teignmouth next Tuesday 3rd March if you fancy popping over to check out the band. As I said it’s a jam night so we’ll have a limited set but you’ll get to see a good number of tracks to get an idea of what we’re about.
I’ll leave my number if you want to let me know if you’re coming, or email it’s up to you.
Cheers, Ollie
