Name: Pete Canter
Show: 200% Proof
When are you on?
Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm. 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of every month.
What type of music can we expect to hear on your show?
Swing, bebop, hardbop, latin jazz, contemporary and experimental jazz music performed by solo artists, small combos and big bands.
How did you get into this type of music?
When I first took up the saxophone over 20 years ago I started listening to the music of John Coltrane and Miles Davies and was hooked. Now, as a professional jazz musician and composer, I am totally immersed in the music.
How long have you been DJing?
This is totally new for me.
How did you start DJing?
Sitting in with Laura Wright one Wednesday afternoon.
Can we find you DJing anywhere other than on Phonic FM?
No.
What has been your most embarrassing DJing moment?
None yet.
What has been your best DJing moment?
Realising that I can twiddle the knobs and sliders, introduce the next tune and even joke, all at the same time!
Who is your favourite artist?
John Coltrane because of his awesome sound on the tenor saxophone, his incredible energy and the searching quality of his playing which was always pushing the boundaries.
What is your all time favourite album?
John Coltrane’s Blue Train because it has great music, great individual playing and because I listened to it when I was first getting into jazz.
Where do you shop for music?
I buy most of my music online because there isn’t that much jazz on offer.
