Playing Jamaica’s finest tunes. |
Name: Leon
Show: Highest Grade Reggae Show
When are you on?
The Highest Grade Reggae Show is on every second Thursday from 10pm to midnight.
What type of music can we expect to hear on the show?
Reggae from roots through to dancehall.
How did you get into this type of music?
I was brought up listening to reggae and don’t intend to stop now!!!!
How long have you been DJing?
Almost 25 years.
How did you start DJing?
I used to DJ with my father who ran a mobile disco and continued from there.
Can we find you DJing anywhere other than on Phonic FM?
Highest Grade at the Velvet Lounge every second Friday from 9pm – 2am;
Highest Grade’s weekly reggae bar session at the Amber Rooms every Wednesday from 9pm – midnight, and;
Highest Grade’s guest slot at Fruity Antics in Bristol on Friday March 7th 2009 from 1am – 4am.
What has been your most embarrassing DJing moment?
Nearly knocking myself unconscious on a light whilst DJing at the Cavern.
What has been your best DJing moment?
Putting a 35k rig in St Georges Hall for the first Exeter Respect night and setting lots of alarms off in the High Street as the shops couldn’t deal with the heavy bass, then informing the police that we were not going to turn it down but the shop owners were welcome to come in for a free drink, somehow it worked!!!
Who is your favourite artist?
I don’t have a single favourite there’s too much quality but one man who always delivers has to be Mr Beresford Hammond.
What is your all time favourite album?
Again I don’t have a favourite too much niceness agwaan.
Where do you shop for music?
I tend to get most of my music online but can’t forget the Dub Vendor crew, big up to the junction massive.
