Lee Rawlings

Lee Rawlings

Lee Rawlings

Presenters names: Lee Rawlings

Show name: Spitting Feathers

Show time and day: Tuesdays 10pm - one month on – one month off (like a lighthouse keeper!) next up in October, December then February 2010.

What type of music can we expect to hear on the show?
Well, each week has a different flavored co-presenter- Colin Bray , Louise Scott and Tony Eccles, lick ‘em like a lolly, they all taste different!!- check out their profiles for more inaccurate information! Me? I shall be opening up my mixed bag of tasty chewable music morsels to rattle the wax from your drums, plus I’ll throw in some famous people interviews- a bit of comedy - some live band sessions, oh and I love to play with YOUR emails so make sure you get involved!

How did you discover this music?
I love most good music but I don’t know it all, so this show will be a journey of discovery for me and hopefully the audience,  opening new doors to music which I hope you will just dive into and experiment with. I love talking too, so it won’t all be about music.

What is the format of your show?
I anchor the show each week and mess with co-presenters heads. They bring music and stories and we chat, have some fun and laugh…a lot. I will try not to spill tears of laughter into the mixing desk because I have heard that that is dangerous and could kill me to death.

Why should we listen to your show?
It is different each week so 1 in 4 shows has got to touch you somewhere….did I say that right?

How did your show come about?
I have been on Radio in Somerset for a year playing against a madman called Rupert Green. Improvisation was the name of the game, no schedule and I loved it. Someone termed us ‘Clownpunk’ in our delivery, our theatrical backgrounds helped I suppose. We laughed so hard we broke a rib a week. I left the show basically because of distance. I have actually been banging on Phonic FM’s door for years, maybe I should not have used my head, when the door was answered they told me to wipe my face on the mat.

What goes on behind the scenes in the studio?
I eat biscuits and cry into a nun’s purse, Louise dances the mambo, Colin cleans his superhero pant (turns them inside out) and Tony talks to famous dead people like ‘Dolly’ the sheep.

What has been you best on air moment?
Last year - For a full 24 hours I presented a show with Rupert non-stop. It was tiring and brilliant. We raised quite a bit of money for that station too. The worst part was the 3am slot, we were burbling rubbish about David Bowie’s face in the moon. After listening back though I found it wasn’t much different to our normal style.

What has been your worst/ most embarrassing on air moment?
Wow. I don’t really get embarrassed because I was born an idiot and idiots always doing embarrassing things so I am used to it. My most nerve wracking moment was conducting an interview with Acoustic Ladyland – they scared me a bit, intelligent and tense , I realized afterwards their support never showed up and they were ready to kill – mind you it made their performance more manic and crazy, which was nice.

Who is your favourite artist?
Munch? Reminds me of food…what? MUSIC ARTIST? Oh,um, I have many, but I would probably say Bjork . I danced with her in Plymouth at an after show party last year. I love her and her funny ways. Oh, I really, really love her…. have I said that already?

What is you all time favourite album?
Seriously? Grace -  Jeff Buckley . It is the only album that sends shivers down my spine when I just talk about it…ohhhhh!..there it goes again! But then again I love sound effects tapes too – The ‘BBC- Death and Horror sfx ’  is a real laugh. Tony meditates to them.
