Monstrous Love is a story about transformation and the power of change. Not only the change that occurs as a result of abuse but also the change needed to cope with the harassment that follows walking out. Leaving is just the first step …
Ultimately though, it is a story of hope.
This is a two person show derived from experiences of domestic violence, tracing the abuse from small, easy to dismiss incidents through a gradual escalation that finally traps both partners in a destructive cycle.
Restless Theatre Company are an innovative, emerging Theatre Company in the South West. Combining new writing with collage techniques using sources such as Shakespeare and Fletcher, Restless have devised a new performance exploring how people can be motivated to monstrous actions in the name of love.
Kindly sponsored by Hartnell Chanot Family Law Specialists and in collaboration with Tabernacle Arts.
Founded in 2008 by Sarah McCourt, Restless tackles challenging questions about how we live today with dynamic theatre that combines adaptation with new writing and performance techniques. Previous performances have included Othello’s Dream (City Gate Hotel, February 2008) and Human Alchemy (Hildesheim, June 2008 and People’s Theatre Camden, February 2009).
Directed by Judy Preston whose directing credits include: Niki McCretton’s award-winning solo performance, Worm Hole and Su Squire’s highly acclaimed One Voice and Choked. Other directed work includes Scratch Theatre company’s The Carrot Fiction and Blue Moon Theatre’s The Wildest Affair.
Tickets cost £8, £6 concessions and are available from the Exeter Phoenix box office on 01392 667080.
