Two hours of music celebrating roots, alt country and alt rock from North America. |
Show name: Americana
Presenter’s name: Nick Roberts-Alatti
Show time and day: Fridays, fortnightly from 2pm to 4pm
What type of music can we expect to hear on your show?
Richmond Fontaine, Ryan Adams, Cat Power, Calexico, Fleet Foxes, Wilco, Grizzly Bear, Gillian Welch, Neil Young.
Anyone who’s cool, North American, has an intriguing story to tell through the power of song and likes the sound of pedal steel guitars
Why do you like this music?
It’s got punk’s defiance against a lush country music backdrop.
What is the format of your show?
Music and guests but engaging with listeners is important too.
Why should we listen to your show?
Because like most shows on Phonic FM it doesn’t dumb down or treat its audience like morons. Embracing music that is outside your comfort zone is not easy, but through a little bit of effort, adventure and curiosity, the rewards are great.
How did your show come about?
I had been doing a reggae show on Phonic FM for a year and felt like a change.
What goes on behind the scenes in the studio?
When the mic’s turned down there’s nothing I like more than to sing along with the tracks!
What has been your best on air moment?
When I first discovered how to go from the news, to a jingle and a track in one seamless movement!
What has been your worst/ most embarrassing on air moment?
Playing a track with some rude words in it.
Who is your favourite artist?
It changes every month but at the moment for Willy Vlautin’s rasping vocals and Raymond Carver -inspired lyrics, it must be Richmond Fontaine .
What is your all time favourite album?
Well, my favourite album of 2009 was Calexico’s Carried to Dust .
