Creative Learning at the Northcott |
From Roald Dahl to Mark Ravenhill, there’s something for everyone in Exeter Northcott’s Spring 2010 Creative Learning programme of activities.
The workshops and community productions, began on Monday 11th January.
The highlight is the Northcott Young Company production of one of Roald Dahl’s best-loved classics, James and the Giant Peach.
Complementing James and the Giant Peach is a series of 10 week workshop programmes exploring the magic of Dahl’s writing.
On Thursday evenings (6pm to 7pm), The Bug Ball gives six to 10 year olds the chance to make masks and costumes inspired by the James and the Giant Peach characters.
For 11 to 14 year olds, The Wacky World of Roald Dahl (Wednesdays, 6pm to 7.15pm) explores the role of storytelling, mime and comedy in Dahl’s novels.
Geared to older teenagers and adults, Exeter Northcott’s New and Contemporary Classics workshops focus on modern playwrights, exploring their work and putting it into context.
For 15 to 19 year olds, these workshops will study playwrights David Edgar and Naomi Wallace (Wednesdays, 7.30pm to 8.45pm).
For those 20 years and upwards, they will explore the provocative writing of Mark Ravenhill and Roy Williams (Fridays, 7pm to 9pm).
Anyone serious about developing playwriting skills should look at the Writers’ Workshop Weekend (Sat 13 and Sun 14 March) on political theatre.
Also returning are the ever-popular Northtots for two to five year olds and Northcott Community Singers.
All Exeter Northcott’s workshops are run by a professional team of theatre practitioners, and are a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people and share ideas.
