Green Man spotting |
This Sunday the 21st of March between dawn and noon a Green Man will be roaming the streets of Exeter, leaving a trail of messages behind.
The Phoenix have put a prize of ten pairs of free tickets for events at the Arts Centre on his trail.
Photographic evidence of the Green Man’s appearances can be entered into a prize draw. Post them to tony@phonic. fm, submitted photographs might get published on the website and will be automatically entered into the draw.
Some of the Green Man’s messages also have a prize on them. They need to be presented at the box office no later than the 23rd of March.
Between 10am and noon on that Sunday DJ Sketchy will be in conversation with Dr Simon Persighetti on 106.8fm, giving clues as to the Green Man’s whereabouts. Green man spotters will be well advised to have a portable radio, a pair of binoculars and a camera with a strong zoom lens on them.
Phonic fm and the Exeter Phoenix wish you happy spotting.

Thanks for this fantastic picture of Green Man in Debenhams, Exeter. It seems successful in drawing together so many strands and dynamics of the visitation.
At first I wanted to know what the man in the picture was reading and whether the Green Man had escaped from his imagination. Then of course we see the sylvan figure looking at the Cathedral, home to over 60 images of the fertility spirit carved in wood and stone throughout the Christian edifice. And there, we witness this contemporary apparition - in the café in the sky overlooking a formally agricultural city that has now become a centre for commerce, service industries and logo shopping. In the distance the landscape of river and hills that made the city appear as a supplanted dream or backdrop to the fiscal forces that forget that light and air and water are the fuels that we cannot live without.
