Media ownership and communication: permissions & copyright

In what is often called the digital age content and its availability is crucial. From news and information sites to the blogosphere;  search engines, shopping and music channels to social networking sites and many more (and of course you’re favourite Exeter radio station: Phonic fm), it’s content and availability that drives the success.

But with so much of the data on the Internet and available in other formats, digital and physical,  what are the implications of ownership with technologies like DRM which force one-time purchases for use on single devices and moves by large media corporations to monetise news content on the Internet?

These moves to claim rights over content produced are long standing and with changing implications for users and contributors of this content.

This evening we are going to be exploring copy right ideas permissions and ownership.

Postgraduate student, from the University of Exeter whose focus is on the development of copyright and connected regulations with attention on European rules.

Postgraduate student, also from the University of Exeter Whose focus is on the radio spectrum and its use in the digital switch-over.

Senior lecturer in European media studies at the university of Exeter whose main research is on media ownership and the concentration of media ownership.
