Show name: Junction Poland
Presenter’s name: Tomek Adamski
Show time and day: Sundays from 8pm to 10pm on the second and fourth week of the month.
What type of music can we expect to hear on your show?
Popular Polish artists from 70s, 80s, 90s to now, ranging from rock, jazz, funk and electronic.
Why do you like this music?
Simply because it’s the music I grew up with and have very fond memories of these times. Fantastic music made by talented musicians, which made big changes in my life.
What is the format of your show?
Two hours of mixed music without the usual chit chat. This is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon going on a musical journey.
Why should we listen to your show?
These two hours of Polish music may be a bit weird for most of you to listen to. When I was youngster it was a big event for me and my best friends to get and check any British albums. All amazing and great bands like Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Joy Division, The Police and more, made huge impact for us. We were young and rebellious people in Poland with communism fading away. We didn’t have a chance to learn English, everyone was forced to learn Russian and most of us didn’t understand a word. The sound of this great music itself was important to us. We didn’t need to know what they were singing about and still we loved it. I hope Junction Poland could work in a similar way and I’m sure even without understanding the lyrics you can easily guess what the songs are about and enjoy them.
How did your show come about?
Many of you probably have some Polish friends and everyone knows there are a lot of us around. One day I just realised it could be a good idea to bring some good Polish music here and show that we do have a rich culture. Especially Polish music which has been very influenced by British groups. After all, together we can discover that we can not only work together but also rock together! I did find Phonic FM as the best place for this idea so here I am
What goes on behind the scenes in the studio?
I’ll tell you more after a few shows, for now I’m too excited and also a bit nervous!
What has been your best on air moment?
Many years ago we were in the middle of the show doing some quiz stuff with awards for listeners. I picked up the phone hoping to hear a correct answer, but it was a call from my girlfriend saying “I love you”, I had to say “Thank you but it’s not the correct answer”.
What has been your worst/ most embarrassing on air moment?
One late Sunday evening show we had some CD’s from the sponsor shop to give to anyone who calls in first. Nobody did and so we had to lie on air! The CDs ended up going to random names!
Who is your favourite artist? Why?
As a person who loves music and can’t live without it, it’s not even easily possible to specify ten favourite artists!
What is your all time favourite album? Why?
Hmm. There is one album I can’t get rid of and I keep coming back to regularly. It’s Angel Dust – Faith no More. This is a masterpiece and when I first bought it on cassette I was only 17 and playing in a few rock bands, It was a fantastic time of my life. This album reminds me of that time.
