The Martin Harley Band, Exeter Phoenix, Friday 21st May
The Martin Harley Band are an acoustic trio who are achieving cult status with live music fans worldwide thanks to their dynamic live shows and catchy arrangements.
The band’s profile grew dramatically in 2009 as MHB opened many UK shows for Brit Award winner James Morrison and played two critically acclaimed shows on Glastonbury’s famous Acoustic and Avalon stages.
Their slide-driven sound, fronted by Acoustic London’s Solo Performer of the Year 2005, blends swinging contemporary Americana with heavier acoustic blues-rock and delicate ballads of exceptional beauty.
MHB were given the rare honour of permission from cult US songwriter Tom Waits to record a version of his song Chocolate Jesus.
2010 sees MHB promoting a new studio album Drumrolls for Somersaults with 10 great new tracks produced by Nigel Stonier.
The album leans a little more towards a brighter contemporary sound but still ticks all the boxes in terms of great writing, blinding guitar work and some well crafted harmonies from new bassist Jay Carter and roots diva Thea Gilmore.
Doors 8:30 pm. Standing show.
