Underwater art for the family

Underwater art for the family

Underwater, Saturday 17th July to Saturday 11th September, Spacex

Families are invited to enjoy an underwater exhibition at Exeter’s Spacex gallery this summer.

Underwater is an exhibition of contemporary art depicting a world of strange sea creatures, sublime sea-scapes, and watery infinity.

The exhibition and accompanying activity programme are both free – great news for families looking to do something together without breaking the bank.

Family Fridays 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th August, various times
Every Friday during August families will be invited to take part in free creative activities at Spacex. Whether it’s the chance to have breakfast surrounded by underwater sounds, be entertained by a storyteller, get your face painted, or help create an animation inspired by the watery depths of the ocean, there are lots of opportunities to get involved.

A full timetable of events is listed on the Spacex website at www.spacex.org.uk or to request a leaflet please email education@spacex.org.uk or call Hannah Reeves on 01392 431786.

Underwater Activity Bag, Saturday 17th July to Saturday 11th September
The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, photography, and video works by ten international artists including Bill Viola, Dorothy Cross and Ellen Gallagher. Expect to see a motorised squid, hear strange sounds from the depths of a lake and much more. Whenever the gallery is open, a self-directed activity bag will be available for a more interactive way of exploring the exhibition.

Education and participation programmer, Hannah Reeves, said: “We’re expecting lots of visitors with children this summer, so we wanted to provide a hands-on way for them to experience the exhibition.

Children really enjoy spending time in the gallery with their parents or carers, especially if they have the opportunity to be creative together.”

Spacex is just a short walk from the town centre en-route to Exeter quay and is open 10-5 Tuesday to Saturday. The gallery is accessible to wheelchair users.
