A Christmas Carol: Smoke and Mirrors A Bike Shed Theatre Production. |
Bike Shed Theatre, Wednesday 21st December to Saturday 7th January 2012 ,7.30pm & 2.00pm
After winning The Mark Marvin Rent Subsidiary Award, at this years Peter Brook Empty Space Awards, The Bike Shed Theatre are happy to announce their Christmas production; an adaptation of Charles Dicken’s much loved A Christmas Carol.
It is Christmas Eve, 1844. Whilst his staff struggle to make ends meet for Christmas, the miser Scrooge is visited by three ghosts who show him visions of his past, present and future.
The award winning company give the tale a little twist promising original Victorian special effects, some cracking animation by local animator James Cleland, shadow puppetry, live music and a whole lot of spookiness in Exeter’s most intimate theatre auditorium.
With local actors Joe Sellman Leava, Charlie Coldfield London actress Loren O Dair and, fresh from starring alongside Stephen Fry in Tony Roche’s Holy Flying Circus for BBC 4, Ben Crispin.
Playwrite Shaun McCarthy, said: “Writing a new stage version of a loved and well-known Christmas classic feels like putting one’s head into a critical lion’s mouth. However I believe what we have created at Bike Shed is something genuinely different and exciting, but with the traditional spirit of celebration to suit the time of year.
I hope the show will give audiences serious ideas to think about, as well as ghosts and the world’s most famous miser as you have never seen him before.”
