Phonic FM has launched its first all night show with the Music4Insomniacs radio show. |
Music4Insomniacs Radio Show is a four-weekly overnight show running from midnight Thursday through until the Friday Breakfast crew’s arrival at 8am.
The presenter is Mobydoc, one of the St. David’s Hillbillies, who is branching out with his own show.
The format being used by Mobydoc tends to be segues of four tracks with a bit of chat inbetween to let folks who are tuned in from various places around the globe know that their messages are being received.
Musical genres include ambient, chill and lounge and all sorts of music to fall asleep to – with the occasional livelier pieces to wiggle one’s toes to under the covers featuring trance, dance, prog and interesting stuff that happens to grab Mobydoc’s attention.
Most of the segues have a thematic link. There may be similarities in genre (ie, solo acoustic guitar) or history (all from a particular year or source).
In the first half of the October show, every other segue featured tracks with the word Moon in the title, while the second half theme was the word Night.
To run through the halfway point of the show, around 3:30am an entire album is played back to back which was Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd in the October show.
There is an open Facebook group called Music4Insomniacs Radio Show which can be used to chat with Mobydoc during each show and playlists are posted live on the Facebook events that are created for each show.
The shows will be every fourth week until the end of March 2012.
