Science and cabaret collide

Dark Matters, Thursday 24th March to Saturday 26th March, The Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter, 6pm

A new performance genre, courtesy of the recently formed Foot Candle Productions, is coming to Exeter – Science Cabaret – a fusion of stand up, street entertainment and Royal Society Lectures.

Foot Candle’s first production is Dark Matters which will bring to life the mysteries of the Large Hadron Collider.

Funded by The Science and Technology Facilities Council, two physicist/performers, John Teasdale and Portia Smith, have created an eccentric performance which brings to life and understanding the goings-on at the Large Hadron Collider, the famous scientific facility in Switzerland.

It will illuminate the potential discoveries of the Hadron Collider including the origin of mass, dark matter, supersymmetry, the possibility of extra dimensions and the recreation of the quark gluon soup.

All this, and more, will be brought to the stage by John and Portia (supported by Jerry Hart on trumpet) during March:

Portia Smith explained: “Dark Matters is part of a new wave of theatre where performance meets science.

“Already a growing trend in the US, where science and cinema are fusing in screenings and lectures, we are taking this one giant step further to live theatre.”

John Teasdale added: ”Making clear the complexities of the Large Hadron Collider has been our challenge, and Science Cabaret is our answer.

“For anyone with a passing interest in physics, then coming to see Dark Matters will ensure they can boldly go where few have gone before.”

Tickets cost £7 or £5 for concessions.
