A junkyard of alternative noises, lost-and-found sounds and new shiny sparkling songs. |
Show name: The Midweek Alternative
Presenter/s names: Chris Glew
Show time and day: Alternate Wednesdays, 10pm ’till midnight
What type of music can we expect to hear on your show?
Hmm, all things under the sun. Maybe things that haven’t hit mainstream radio and some things that just may do sometime soon. Hopefully a mixed-bag of goodies that will please and tease.
Why do you like this music?
Music is like food, I can’t live without it. Good food keeps you healthy, good sounds keep me happy. Hopefully this show won’t give you indigestion, it’s a bit of a rich meal to have on an empty stomach.
What is the format of your show?
As many tunes as I can cram in plus I’m planning to have a bit of chat with guests when they’re about. I’ll probably wax lyrical about lyrics if you let me and even have a slot to showcase a genre, artist or movement to bring lost treasures to light.
Why should we listen to your show?
“You should listen to my show because it is very likely you will hear something you have never heard of, and you might actually enjoy it!” – thanks Pat, I couldn’t put it better myself
How did your show come about?
Pat Bensberg and I chat often about our mutual love of all kinds of “Alt” music and he suggested that I try spinning a few of my favourites on PhonicFM.
What goes on behind the scenes in the studio?
I’m like a swan, smooth on the surface but paddling like fury beneath. Yeah right.
What has been you best on air moment?
Probably being able to fit Tom Waits, some good old Two-Tone and Fugazi all into one show, as the theme was “the 80s” I could go wild. Great fun.
What has been your worst/ most embarrassing on air moment?
I’m sure to have something horrid occur soon after the show goes on air, but hey it’s live radio and we do our best. Hopefully it’ll be funny to listen to anyway.
Who is your favourite artist?
Tom Waits. Why? He has always made unique, personal music and sublime lyrics that take my mind to wonderful places. His work shows me beautiful, terrible things and sends sweet love letters to my soul, it’s like a safe place to hide from the rain. I hide there often.
What is your all time favourite album?
Just one?!! Erk. How can I possibly choose just one? Well, today its The Stooges, Raw Power. Tomorrow it may well change. Why? Iggy and the Stooges are like a planetary force for violent expression, of unfettered monster groove and sheer joy in sounds. This album is loud, brutal, sexy, angry and iconoclastic. What’s not to like?
