Thoroughly Modern Milly, Exeter Northcott, Wednesday 25th January to Saturday 28th January 2012, 7.30pm
Following the success of last year’s A Chorus Line, The University of Exeter’s longest running musical theatre society, Footlights, are back with the much loved six-time Tony award-winner Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Set in New York in 1922, the show follows the story of feisty, small town girl Millie Dillmount and her move to the Big Apple in her thoroughly modern pursuit of marrying for money and not for love. However, her adventures soon lead her into trouble when she finds herself stalled by the charming but broke Jimmy Smith and in the centre of a white slavery ring.
Based on the Oscar winning 1967 film starring Julie Andrews, the musical features original music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics by Dick Scanlan and premiered on Broadway in 2002, coming to London’s West End in 2003 starring Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden as Millie.
This exclusive run at the Exeter Northcott marks a continued annual tradition between the society and the theatre. A showcase of the University’s talent and an important part of the relations between the University and Exeter’s community this is a show not to be missed.
So why not bob your hair and raise your skirts for a night of adventure, glamour and true love in the big city!
