Phoenix new season announced

Exeter Phoenix presents an eclectic programme of new and established music acts, boundary-breaking performance, award-winning contemporary artists and international cinema alongside inspiring art classes, digital media workshops and fun family activities.

Over 100 events will take place at Exeter Phoenix between January and March and more are to be added.  With so much happening in one building and with a number of events on offer free of charge, there is something for everyone at Exeter Phoenix nestled in the heart of the city.

Music highlights this season include The South (formally known as The Beautiful South); Mad Dog Mcrea for a St Patrick’s Day special, and festival favourites Wild Beasts.

The Performance programme includes comedy by Jenny Éclair and Sony Radio Award Winner Simon Munnery as well as a new performance from Total Theatre award-winner Bryony Kimmings and beautiful contemporary dance from Dan Canham and Laura Dannequin.

The art programme includes Steven Paige who explores the concept of fraternity in a new work incorporating performance, video and installation; followed by Passage of the Soul by David Blandy, winner of The Times/The South Bank Show Breakthrough Award 2010. Blandy’s work explores ideas about identity, media and alter egos and, on Super Hero Sunday on 26 Feb 12-4pm, families can get involved by making their own super hero costume!

Films this season include the world premiere of The Nature of Angrove; a screening of a new British film How to Re-establish a Vodka Empire followed by a Q&A with the director; Skeletons, winner of Best New British Film at Edinburgh Film Festival 2010; and a special film and music event in which The Great White Silence is screened on 35mm film accompanied by live music from Stephen Horne of the National Film Theatre.

For adults wanting to build new skills, teachers looking for student activities or parents looking for family activities, our Digital and Learning departments provide classes and workshops in a fun and friendly environment
