Since the British Blues Awards (BAA) started, through my radio show on Phonic FM (Wednesday’s Even Worse – alternate Wednesdays, 6pm to 8pm) Ian McKenzie has each year, at the request of the BBA organisers, announced the nominees for that the Male Vocalist Award and other categories.
This year Phonic FM has become even more involved.
The Kevin Thorpe Award, an in memoriam award for a blues musician who passed away unexpectedly in in 2010, is given to the song/songwriter who garners the most votes in a complex voting process.
Fourteen blues radio DJs were each asked to nominate four songs which were played to listeners of their shows. Listeners were invited to vote for their favourite on a secure website managed by the BBA organisers. The winner of each of the 14 sets went into the final.
One of the songs selected by Ian has been declared the winner; The Bittersweet, written and performed by Marcus Bonfanti.
Listeners to Ian’s show on Phonic FM, are thanked most sincerely for their support and for getting involved in the process.
Ian said: “It’s nice to know I’ve still got a good ear!”
