Phonic FM presents SynthWest II, 5 September

SynthWest II: Three top-class electronic and synth duos packed into one evening

Exeter Phoenix – Saturday 5 September – 7pm – £8.50

SynthWest is an organisation dedicated to bringing electronic music in all its forms to the southwest of the UK, and they have joined forces with Phonic FM to bring the second of their showcases to Exeter Phoenix this September.

Headliners the Vile Electrodes initially formed through a mutual affection for early synthpop, delta blues, horror film soundtracks, rock‘n’roll and miserable indie bands. They have toured with OMD, as well as supporting John Foxx & The Maths, Melt Yourself Down and Michael Rother.

‘Vile Electrodes give electro-pop back its dignity… they deserve the widest possible attention.’
ARTS DESK

The equally important first of support acts is Shelter. Mark R Bebb and Rob Bradley were regional finalists in Future Music Publishing’s National Songwriting competition from over 8,000 entries and have supported many established acts at large outdoor events. Since then, they have completed collaborations with Erasure’s Andy Bell and Vince Clarke and are currently releasing a new single from their latest album created alongside Frankmusik. Expect a performance of fabulous pop exuberance and energy.

Finally, Exeter based LLDC (Also known as Lou Latham vs Dubb Clown) bring their dance-inspired electronica to Exeter Phoenix for the first time. Their impressive first EP release earlier this year, New Horizons features a sound borne of Matt and Lou’s varied influences. Club beats combine with Lou Latham’s indie sensibilities, Matt Steggles’ live bass-triggered synth lines, altogether creating a beautifully structured melting pot of now with heavy hints of the 90’s Bristol sound at it’s core.

Threaded throughout the night will be sounds from Two Knobs & An Oscillator, Phonic FM’s very own (slightly) irreverent synth enthusiast radio show. Simon Brett from the show says: “This is an incredibly strong line-up and should not be missed. Through running our show we have become aware of the thriving synth scene steadily growing throughout the country, and to get 3 acts of this quality to play for the benefit of both SynthWest and Phonic FM is a real honour and should not be missed. LLDC are a credit to our great city and will do a great job to get feet moving early in the evening while Shelter will be sure to put on a flamboyant and enthusiastically fabulous poptastic set for the audience. Finishing the evening with Vile Electrodes is a dream come true for us at the show. They truly are electronic royalty and complete a line-up of an extremely high standard. If you love synth pop and lots of hardware with cables trailing from here to there and lots of blinky lights you are going to love it.”

Tickets are available from the Exeter Phoenix box office at £8.50 each (a £1.50 booking fee applies per transaction)

All profits will go towards funding both Phonic FM and future SynthWest events.
