With great sadness, Phonic FM reports the death of Alison Iles, aka Ali Kat.
Her Saturday afternoon show has been a regular feature on Phonic FM for the last five years, playing a mixture, as she described it, of “rare and modern tracks not heard on normal radio, including rockabilly, doo-wop, R&B, jive, swing from the 50s and modern bands in the sound of the era”.
Despite an ongoing series of health problems, Ali presented her show until two weeks ago, when she had to undergo further treatment at John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford and subsequently Birmingham Royal Infirmary where she unfortunately died on Saturday 3rd September.
She will be fondly remembered not only for the quality of her work, but also her outgoing and cheerful nature, even in adversity. Studio 1 will never be the same again, not least because of her insistence on its pristine cleanliness, to which she was devoted. Everyone at Phonic FM extends their deepest sympathies to her next of kin and wider family.
