Phonic FM was a progression from Vibraphonic FM, the radio station that has accompanied the festival of the same name for the past four years.

The 106.8 Phonic FM retains the energy, spontaneity and passion of Vibraphonic but will broadcast all year and cover Exeter’s entire cultural calendar. The city’s festivals alone mean there’s plenty to broadcast: Animated Exeter, the Summer Festival, Exeter Respect Festival, the Autumn Festival and, of course, our continued commitment to Vibraphonic’s funky spring events!

The leap from Vibraphonic to Phonic was made in early 2008 when the annual Vibraphonic Festival radio station broadcast under the new name. Phonic FM went on air on 15 February 2008 and covered the Vibraphonic Festival until 15 March but, instead of waking up to the lonely hiss of static at the end of that period, listeners were able to stay tuned to Phonic FM.
